Lucky Lake Hunting Adventures
Saskatchewan Waterfowl Special: 2019
The Waterfowl opener is just around the corner in Saskatchewan.
We are starting to see broods of ducklings in the sloughs in the early mornings as well as fully feathered Canada goose goslings.
All indications are of a successful nesting season in the tundra for snows, specks and small Canada’s, which will be quite welcome after 2018’s hatch.
Only a few spots remain for this Fall:
September 12-13 for 2-6 hunters
September 21-23 or 24 for 2-8 hunters
September 27-29 for 2-6 hunters.
October 19-21 for 2 hunters
October 27-29 for 2-12 hunters(can be a 4 day hunt)
October 30- November 1 for 2-12 hunters
The September dates could arguably be my favorite time frame for an all around waterfowl experience. The local birds have left their summer ponds and are in bigger flocks feeding hard. Migrators are moving in en mass daily, and the cranes are nearing peak staging numbers. You may not see the huge numbers of October, but these are birds that haven’t been shot up and are way less wary.
The late dates are green head time! The northern ducks have moved out of the forest fringe and are on the prairies putting the feed bag. Depending on the weather, the goose hunting can be the best of the year for all species. If weather has been mild we will be brimming with huge numbers of snows and small Canada geese. The big honkers will also be staring to make their appearance. If weather has been tough, the ducks will be here as well as the big Canada’s.
